Addressing livestock feeding challenges by farmers during the long dry seasons

One of the biggest challenges for livestock farmers is access to feed during the long dry seasons of November to February because the grass dries up and most water sources dry up as well. This is mainly due to a lack of planning for animal feed during the dry season.

Traditionally livestock farmers in the north release animals during the dry season to roam about as a means to cope with the lack of adequate grass, destroying crops in the process.

NARO- Ngetta ZARDI introduced the growing of pastures to provide a constant source of feed with training on how to preserve this grass to combat this problem.
