NARO-NaCORI participated in the 6th Harvest Money Expo which took place at the Kololo independence grounds. This expo attracts thousands of people to different organizations from the local and international agricultural sectors to learn new technologies showcased, benchmark, and buy commodities from exhibitors. It’s also an opportunity for policymakers to engage with other stakeholders involved in the sector.
Farmers continue to face many challenges relating to poor yields, pests and diseases in coffee and cocoa which have continuously left them with devastating incomes hence high-level poverty and hunger.
Coffee, being one of the country’s leading cash crops attracts a number of farmers seeking information on high-yielding varieties, management of the deadly black coffee twig borer which has currently led to a drop in Robusta production which accounts for more than 60% of Uganda’s overall coffee output.

At the exhibition, farmers are engaged in best coffee management practices, how to use the BCTB trap, and good post-harvest handling practices like value addition research.
All these interventions are aimed at increasing crop yield which results leading to more money and hence product acceleration and economic development.
