Handover and Induction of
NARO’s New Governing Council

A three-day handover and induction for the newly appointed NARO Governing Council (NGC) members was officially opened by Hon. Fred Bwiino, Minister of State for Agriculture. The event took place from the 16th–18th August 2022 and was held at Lake Victoria Serena, Kigo.

In his remarks, Hoi commended the previous NGC team for a good job done and thanked them for steering the organization over the last six years and building a firm foundation upon which the new Council is going to start executing its duties.

Professor Joseph Obua, the outgoing chairperson of NGC, presented the management performance scorecard to the new members and urged them to use the scores as a yardstick on which they should measure their performance in three years’ time. The fourth NGC scores were calculated using seven parameters: –

  • Overall performance of the council: 91%
  • The science committee: 97.1%
  • The audit and risk committee: 94%
  • Finance and human resources: 93.8%
  • The user’s committee: 91.94%
  • Secretary to the Council: 94.8%
  • Chairperson’s council: 96.2%

The outgoing council members received plaques and certificates from the Hon. Fred Bwiino for the good work they did during their tenure.

The team was trained on corporate governance, gender and equity, entrepreneurship, finance, audit, and human resources, amongst other areas of relevancy to the team. This was to prepare them for their new role.
