NARO partners with the Church of Uganda’s FAMILY TV to disseminate Agricultural information

The National Agricultural Research Organisation today signed a memorandum of understanding with Family TV. The broadcast house is a brainchild of the Church of Uganda and is only two years old.  The MOU provides a framework through which NARO technologies, innovations, and management practices will be curated and developed, and shared with Family TV audiences.

Dr. Yona Baguma- NARO Director General who signed on behalf of the organization in his remarks shared why NARO was established and the strides made over the years towards ending disease pandemics like cassava mosaic, and banana wilt disease. He further informed the meeting that NARO is currently working on narrowing the nutritional gap, and while being mindful of environmental conservation.

He thanked Family TV, for the partnership and having a shared vision with NARO of improving livelihoods in the country. I am glad that your focus is on promoting technologies geared toward contributing to social and economic transformation.

Dr. Yona said a number of NARO technologies are still on the shelf because over the years’ focus was on generation than promotions and he was glad that Family TV would go a long way in ensuring that Ugandans are aware of the technologies generated by NARO over the year. He urged the management of Family TV to solicit feedback from their viewers regarding agricultural research as their response will help the research agenda. NARO pledge to provide relevant content for use.

Amos Mwesigye-Managing Director, Family TV reiterated the fact that a lot of information in Uganda is generated and kept on the shelf and through channels like TV, this gap can be reduced. He gave an overview of the mission and vision of Family TV, with their reach and audience segmentation.
