SOP for Community seed banks in Uganda

Community seed banking is a fairly new concept in Uganda which is taking shape and being outscaled by stakeholders in the field of crop diversity conservation and use. The first community seed bank was established in 2010 in Sheema district by farmers with technical and financial support from the National Agricultural Research Organization and Bioversity International , (now The Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT) and otherpartners.

Community seed banking has enabled farmers improve their accessibility to good quality diverse seeds to support their crop production, food security and socio-economic needs thereby improving farmers’ livelihoods and the ecosystem services as a whole.
