Welcome to the first edition of The Golden Bean Newsletter. In this edition, we share major highlights from our technology and innovations campaigns as part of the coffee research itinerary for the year 2023/2024.
The focus of coffee research is entrenched in the government’s socio-economic programs that are designed to increase average
household incomes and improve the quality of life of Ugandans.
NaCORI contributes to this endeavor by enhancing coffee farmers’ incomes through the provision and promotion of the use of appropriate technologies and innovations. In pursuit of this mission, our focus is to address bottlenecks to increased productivity along the value chain.
As part of our coffee research agenda, we have developed innovations that support the ND-PIII’s agro-industrialisation agenda on value-addition. Some of our coffee product prototypes that are suited for the cosmetics industry are been taken on by private sector players for scaling out.
To leverage the promotion and uptake of coffee research technologies, innovations, and practices, we plan to set up a Coffee
Research and Innovation Center (CRIC-Kituza). This will serve as a one-stop centre for showcasing and disseminating coffee innovations. In this edition of the Golden Bean Newsletter, we share highlights from the inaugural Kituza Coffee Night (The Golden Bean Night) and the first-ever Coffee Experience. These are outreach and research promotion events that are aimed at increasing knowledge about value-addition research in coffee across the entire value chain.
Through showcasing NaCORI’s innovations and technologies, we promote research as a game-changer in the country’s import and
export; job creation and poverty reduction trajectories. Also, we create a platform for people to network for future research engagements. What other better way to meet than over a cup of coffee!
