Dr. Moses Matovu is an Academic and Research Scientist with over twenty years of expertise in food science, nutrition, food security, food safety, and standards. He currently serves as a Senior Research Scientist at the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO), a position he has held since 2001. Dr. Matovu earned his PhD in Food Science and Technology from the Queensland University of Technology, Australia, under the prestigious Bill and Melinda Gates scholarship in 2016. His doctoral research focused on advancing food safety and nutritional analysis methodologies, contributing significantly to the field.

At NARO, Dr. Matovu plays a pivotal role in various leadership capacities, including Chair of the NaLIRRI-NARO Scientific Committee and Chair of several technical committees under the African Standards Organisation (ARSO). He is renowned for his extensive contributions to enhancing food quality, safety, and nutritional standards across Africa, exemplified by his membership in key biosafety and accreditation committees. His influence extends to mentoring emerging scientists and guiding impactful research initiatives that address pressing agricultural challenges.

Dr. Matovu’s scholarly contributions are widely recognized in the scientific community, with numerous publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals. His research spans genetic variation in food crops, physicochemical analysis of local honey, and innovative strategies to mitigate postharvest losses in staple crops like cassava and bananas. He has also been involved in several collaborative projects funded by prominent institutions like the World Bank and the Gates Foundation, aimed at improving agricultural productivity and food security in Uganda.

Beyond his research prowess, Dr. Matovu is committed to nurturing the next generation of scientists, having supervised and examined several graduate students in food science and related disciplines. His dedication to advancing agricultural research and policy has earned him recognition as a thought leader in the field, influencing regional and international agricultural agendas.
