New high-yielding Rice variety released: A new Rice variety, known as the WDR-73 variety with medium maturity (130 days to maturity) and yield of 9.5 to 10 tonnes per hectare has been officially released at a ceremony held in Kampala.

We were honoured today to host @rggoobi and Moses Byaruhanga (Senior Presidential Advisor) at the Livestock Research Insitute @NaLIRRI on a familiarisation tour.
They visited the vaccine platform, miking parlour, pasture conservation, aflasafe prod'n and dairy zero waste units.

Dr Yona also emphasized the need for farmers to always seek technical guidance and support from @narouganda because NARO has the expertise to help with aspects of seed selection, soil and water management, breed selection, etc.
Dr Yona Baguma the Deputy Director incharge of Research Coordination in his remarks encouraged farmers to always farm with a business mind.
"This is the only way that we will be able to have enough to eat and earn extra income from the surplus taken to the market.

Am glad that we making strides under the livestock sector, witnessed the launch of the trials of the Anti Tick vaccine in Mbabara. This will help our communities and country which imports 378,000 litres of acaricides and 83,000 litres of associated drugs worth USD 83.3 million.
